The drive unit assembly is one of the three core components of an AGV, and without the drive unit, the entire AGV vehicle cannot function. In the industry, wheels with steering are called steering wheels, while wheels without steering are called driving wheels. Two rudder wheels combined with several universal wheels can achieve omnidirectional motion. Four drive wheels can achieve differential forward.

1、 What type of motor should be selected for the AGV steering wheel

1. Permanent magnet DC brushless motor

DC brushless motor is the most commonly used driving motor for industrial electric vehicles. It is widely used due to its high starting torque, strong overload capacity, and easy control. In the field of AGV steering wheel, the most commonly used motors in Germany's Shapomuller, Italy's Luda, and CFR are DC brushless motors.

However, DC brushless motors cannot be applied in some special applications, such as dust-free workshops, flammable gases, flammable and explosive workshops, due to the presence of brushes.

Application industry: Almost all AGV motors in automotive production lines, such as Great Wall Motors, Dongfeng Motors, Mercedes Benz, FAW, SAIC, etc., use DC brushless motor steering wheels.

2. AC asynchronous motor

AC asynchronous motors are also the most commonly used type of motor in industrial vehicle engineering. It has the advantages of high starting torque, strong overload capacity, good environmental adaptability, and maintenance free.

But AC asynchronous motors belong to induction motors, which are difficult to control and drive selection is not easy. Including in the AGV field, AMC application engineers also find it difficult to debug.

Application industry: Parking AGV, laser guided forklift. Shenzhen Yifeng, Hangzhou Xizi, and almost all laser guided AGV forklifts.

3. DC brushless motor/AC permanent magnet synchronous motor

DC brushless motors and AC permanent magnet synchronous motors are not divided in foreign countries and belong to permanent magnet synchronous motors. However, the driving waveform is slightly different. AC permanent magnet synchronous motors are driven by sine waves, while DC brushless motors are driven by square waves (the vast majority, with a small number using sine waves). Synchronous motors have the same electromagnetic frequency as the motor, making them easy to control, high in accuracy, and maintenance free.

However, brushless motors have poor overload capacity and are suitable for situations with small loads, low inertia, and high-speed operation.

Applicable industries: LCD panel workshop, dust-free workshop, KIVA, sorting AGV and other small loads, as well as working conditions in special workshop environments.

2、 Selection of gearbox

As a transmission device, the gearbox focuses on gear material selection and technical processing technology.

For inexperienced people, it is very difficult to choose a suitable steering wheel with high cost-effectiveness. The current market is mixed with good and bad, and the level is uneven, causing a lot of confusion. In fact, the choice of AGV drive mainly depends on the application. If the application solution is good, the superiority of the steering wheel is demonstrated.
